I am currently almost 18 months into a MA Global Diplomacy (MENA) through Online Distance Learning and is hands down the worst educational experience of my life. The Glodip Department are so arrogant that they don’t even reply to emails or return phone calls. I had a one line response to an email four months later with a link to student complaints saying if you aren’t happy put in a complaint - still haven’t resolved my query. The syllabus is nothing more than a glorified reading list and with the exception of one tutor Jenny Ung Loh who is amazing, the rest don’t seem to care. How SOAS has such a good reputation is beyond me - it feels like a complete scam to take money and provide zero service. I am considering taking them to court to recover the costs of my tuition fees as I have undoubtedly not got what I paid for.

A truly unique university with a strong post-colonial perspective and a deep academic focus on the Global South. SOAS offers a critical, decolonial lens that challenges mainstream narratives and prioritises marginalised voices in global scholarship.

Good education but the class discussions are groupthink central and people who assume they are right because they have the majority who agree mostly because they want to be liked. People are too afraid to challenge things that don't make sense, and if you do, you get ostracized or mocked and they just form negative assumptions about you without listening to what you are saying - which is pretty ironic since this university brands itself as a quirky alternative type with endless modules on political rebellion. If you are truly an independent thinker in that way and thought this was your place; boy you're in for a ride... The admin sucks and people talk in the library too much. But I still rate it highly because the material is nevertheless interesting and varied unlike most other universities. I truly have learned a lot; the education is very high quality. Also, the Hare Krishna's giving out free food outside is quite cute.

The entrance to the main building is absolutely stunning. Lots of photo opportunities for students, graduands, alumni, etc. The reception area looks good as well with screens and more. Friendly and private style sitting is available on each floor with tables that can be used as a study or chill out space. There's also a canteen in the Paul Wembley Wing that's open for 2 hours everyday and serves really good food.

This place is a highly left-wing college, and that’s why it attracts people from all over the world and reminds us of what we are overlooking now. We must feel proud to be a SOASian and raise a voice for social justice. Do not be afraid of the future; do what you want. We don’t need wealth, fame, and a stable life. We need global solidarity to change our society, and here is your starting point that opens your unpredictable but beautiful life. Once you step in here, you cannot go back to your previous mindset…

Nice location lovely place to spend academic time at.
Events free to the public are often part of their events so well worth keeping an eye on.

Ever since I've graduated I've had to wait several months for each and every inquiry made to SOAS. I graduated in September 2023 and didn't get my physical diploma sent until spring the following year after repeated contact. For over three months now I have also waited for a response regarding an academic appeal I made regarding my diploma. I have contacted both the appeals and alumni office as well as their telephone operator who switched me to someone who wasn't even there, effectively hanging up on me. If I knew how little they cared about their alumni I would not have chosen to study here.

Don't waste your time with this place, the alumni support is the worst of any university out there. After dozens of emails since graduating this year, this university still won't bat an eye. This problem is the same with everyone. I'd suggest you go anywhere but here, they don't care about you, they care about your pockets...
