Industrial archaeology at its best.
A group of dedicated volunteers maintain this centuries-old flint mill in running order. And what hard work it must be, in view of the masses involved. Two water wheels run by the River Churnet keep turning so visitors can get an idea of what it was like back in the day.
Peter is not only an excellent guide, he puts in a lot of hands-on work and the place benefits from his expertise.
A pity that it is so difficult to find younger volunteers...
No entry ticket but a donation is always appreciated.
A recommendation for boaters on the Caldon: if coming from Etruria, moor before the Mill, there is good mooring with rings, but nothing once you're past.
Highly recommended.

I've driven past hundreds of times over the years, but finally while on a bike ride along the canal, we dropped in for a visit. What a fascinating place, and lovely helpful and knowledgeable volunteers. I wish I'd been years ago! So well preserved, and can still be seen working. A very interesting piece of local industrial history. Well worth making the effort to visit. My 10 year old son, also found it very interesting, and engaging, lots of things to see, and especially interesting as it was actually working.

What a lovely museum, with working water wheels and such friendly and knowledgeable volunteers! We arrived with about 20 minutes until close and Nick gave us the full tour with such enthusiasm and perfectly aimed to capture the kids imagination. Highly recommend this small, but perfectly formed gem. Also learnt loads we didn’t know about the local industry and entrepreneurialism from hundreds of years ago.

It's great to see the historic buildings still standing, but not open to go inside.
