I chose to work with Chris because of all the positive reviews he had, which after working with him I am surprised by. I feel a lot of his reviews are from companies, businesses who Chris will have partnered with. Very few of them are from individuals who have had their homes worked on by Chris, from what I can see.

I will give Chris credit on his drawings, they're detailed and our builders commented positively on them, only positive comments about the drawings. However, if you're looking for an architect who comes in with ideas, then my opinion is that Chris is not your man. We found ourselves having to think of everything, with Chris then following up with the drawings but not collaborating with us on how we could utilise space or suggesting features that maybe we hadn't thought of. The most frustrating thing with Chris though is his communication, it is non-existent at times. He seems to be on holiday a lot and his attitude when being off is that he is completely offline. When you're halfway through a build and your builder notices a mistake, your architect refusing to act at speed for you is really disappointing. Chris sells his business as a 'team', but it is clearly just him and he contracts work out, which is absolutely fine, but be transparent about that. Whenever you call the landline number no one answers. If you run your own business you need to be prepared to be contactable, especially if your clients are spending hundreds of thousands of pounds on a renovation and your build is being held up.

The final straw, which has happened today and made me feel the need to post this, is the fact we've had to pay our structural engineer twice, because of Chris. Our first design was rejected by the council yet Chris allowed us to pay for the structural engineer before that decision had come back. We then had to re-do drawings which meant more structural engineer workings, which meant more cost.

Chris is a nice guy, but not someone I would recommend to individuals who are wanting a proper partner for their dream renovation and who appreciate strong communication alongside that. If you just want drawings, then use Chris, as they're solid.
