It is an impressive site. We did not book a guided tour but apparently they are very interesting. In the visitor centre the history background is extensively illustrated and there are parts also dedicated to the kids. There is a shop for souvenirs and a cafeteria. The site is well organised. I recommend.

I wish we had more time to explore everything more thoroughly. There’s so much history to take in, and walking the trails really gives you a sense of the past. The views were incredible, and it was peaceful despite the heavy history attached to the place. I’d love to come back on my own sometime, spend a few hours just walking and reflecting.

Always a beautiful place to go to! It is free to walk the battlefield which it took me about 35 minutes to walk the whole field which was really nice. I would recommend some good hiking boots since it is a dirt/gravel trail and it was pretty wet today.

It was also the anniversary of the battlefield, so a lot more excitement going on with clan members paying their respects to their ancestors. It is a beautiful place to visit throughout the year and it is easy to access this battlefield by bus (also a cheaper options - £3.70 single ride)

Went there early morning, was very peaceful. Lots of history and nicely illustrated, even with flags of where the two sites would have stood. Very important site for scottish history, so a must if you are in the area.
It is a bit of a walk, so bring some time. And it is an open field, so it was very windy when we visited.

The clan gravestones, the memorial cairn, and the haunting silence make it clear—this is a place of remembrance, not just learning.

Walking the grounds, you don’t just read about history—you feel it. The tragedy, the bravery, and the lasting consequences of the battle are all tangible. It’s a deeply moving experience that makes you reflect on the past and its impact on Scotland today.

Culloden Battlefield is a must-visit for anyone who believes history should be felt, not just studied.

Incredibly peacefully and moving.
Museum exhibition is excellent and full of information.
Great staff , very knowledgeable. Shop is expensive but love that things like the bags are made from sugar cane so no plastic.

The air was heavy with history. Culloden Battlefield is beautifully preserved and deeply moving. Walking the grounds where so many lives were lost brings an eerie stillness that hits you hard if you know the story. The upkeep is excellent, and the visitor center is well done. A must-see for anyone who knows their history or wants to understand the depth of Scotland’s past.

Visited here almost 12 years ago, it was very gloomy and dramatic. This time is was very sunny and what a difference. I think it was interesting choice to show the events leading up to the battle and after from both sides.

I wonder how popular culloden became after the tv show "outlander'
