James and his team provided me with a very thorough and carefully thought out action plan for my invention bringing it from a physical object to paper with a very informative process pathway ready for the IPO. Their attention to detail is unmatched and their responsiveness is very quick. They also have many contacts and much experience in dealing with everything I needed for my project. I would thoroughly recommend them at any stage in your product development and patent ideas. If only everyone in every industry worked this way the world would be a better place.

James was recommended to me by a third party and I am pleased to say James and his team met all my expectations. He and his team took time to understand our invention and he guided us through the 'minefield' of patent registration. His professionalism, communication and timely responses to questions are an easy recommend from us.

We had used J. P. Peel & Co Ltd services in order to have our patent specifications written as a legal document and filed with the UK IPO. Our decision to use James Peel services was due to the fact that his hourly rates are considerably a lot lower compared to most other patent attorneys in the UK. Partly this is due to the fact that he does not have a dedicated office for his clients and uses a virtual office in London (there are issues with this such as the booking team at the venue he uses keep chopping and changing the days and times of appointments and causing unnecessary inconvenience and secondly you are time constraint in using the room for the initial first meeting with James because he only books the room for 1 hour and anything over that is extra chargeable).

During the course of the work undertaken, James advised that the trademarks that we hold for our products are weak and that he could assist us in obtaining better protection. He quoted us £350 to do this work from his Trade Mark Consultant, Allister McManus. We decided to contact the UK IPO and check first and we were advised that apparently that there was nothing wrong with our trademarks and protection was more than adequate as we had full protection over both the words and images used in our trademarks. It became clear to us that James clearly tried to deceive us and was not trustworthy in his advice given to us. When we raised our concerns over this to James over the phone, he literally hung up with sigh. The next working day James sent us an email thanking us for using his services and that he longer wishes to work with us.

It was evident that James was a very highly money minded individual who puts his own financial interests ahead of clients interests. With such egos and issues with his attitude and behaviour we lost a considerable amount of money as a result. He does need to be a lot more diplomatic and tactful with the way he deals with his clients. At the end of the day you are the paying client and he is the service provider and you would expect him to present himself a lot better professionally given the competition out there.

Since then we have used a different attorney and have noticed a huge difference in not only the service provided but also the quality of advice given.

Ultimately there is a price to pay for the right type of service and I strongly advise anyone to spend that extra money and use the right attorney than paying low rates with poor service such as with this attorney. You get what you pay for.

My only suggestion to anyone looking to use James Peel's services is do not agree to pay the full amount upfront to him and try to negotiate with him on payment instalments. James is more than capable of slamming the door on the customers face whenever he feels like it and it is better to lose some money than all your money. Ultimately the customer needs to have some say in these matters and its not just about what he wants and thinks. If he insists, simply move on. There are plenty of attorneys out there looking for work who can provide a much better overall service.

James gave a 'free no obligation' meeting and his advice was invaluable to a business ingénue. He acted, in a paid capacity, to register a trade mark, which I could not possibly have done on my own. He has now suggested a way of realising my product idea which has is encouraging me to persevere. I have no hesitation in recommending his service.

Clear communication throughout the process with excellent attention to detail. Our invention arose from a collaboration with a University during a knowledge transfer partnership. James had experience of working with universities in this way and was able to help us to avoid problems before they arose. Would highly recommend.

I am a US patent attorney and have known James for about two decades. James is knowledgeable, professional and best of all, responsive. He stands heads above other UK and European patent attorneys that I have known and done business with.

Lacked technical understanding of the principles behind our invention and drafted an application which was of poor quality. When I had asked James Peel to amend sections of our patent application to improve upon the description, James advised that he will need to make extra charges despite the fact that James had already advised the costings and the number of inclusive drafts permitted at the beginning. This only came about because the fundamental problem was that James had underestimated the amount of time that it would take him to draft our application based on the information that we supplied him but yet he somehow he managed to provide us a quote without actually looking through the information first through no fault of mine and has nothing to do with us. Rather unprofessionally he then started referring to and made unnecessary and unhelpful comments on how the UK IPO and EPO will charge us over £1000 based on the number of pages in our invention notes and James asked us to condense the information to reduce the number of the pages. A little too late at that stage and every attorney knows that it is always the job of the patent attorney to sift through the clients information and pick out what is relevant to write a patent application based on their understanding of the invention and knowledge. That is what you are paid to do and not provide a quotation, start work and then look through the information and moan about the about of time it took you to read the information and draft an application and talk about unnecessary extra charges (because you made a fundamental oversight). My learning lesson with this attorney was that I would liked to have requested 3 to 6 written references and contact details at the beginning before committing to working with this attorney and I would liked to have checked and verified each reference with each referee by contacting each of them before making such decisions. I know its too late now but thats my learning lession. £3500 wasted on this attorney on work that was of poor standard. I do not recommend this attorney.
